The Robb Elementary School shooting incident in Uvalde, Texas has been all over the news. The alleged school shooter, Salvador Ramos, was inside the school for one hour before being shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol tactical team member.
Regional Director of Texas Department of Public Safety Victor Escalon said that Ramos killed 19 students and 2 teachers during the shooting incident. Escalon also reported that the suspect walked in undisrupted through an unlocked door.
This tragedy is, unfortunately, the deadliest in Texas history.
GOP Lawmakers Open to Passing Red-Flag Gun Laws
More Republican senators are open to red-flag gun laws after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas… but the path to passage is still unclear. Red-flag legislation allows law enforcement to confiscate firearms from individuals whom the court considers dangerous. As of now, at least 19 states have red-flag legislation.
Several GOP senators said they were open to the idea. They are:
- Susan Collins of Maine, whose state has a red-flag law
- John Cornyn of Texas
- Mike Braun of Indiana
- Rick Scott of Florida
Collins shared her thoughts about considering red-flag gun laws. She said, “I believe that we should look at enacting a red-flag law based on the one we have in Maine, which has due process rights and involves a medical professional in the decision.”
Then she added, I don’t know the shooter’s details, but it’s hard to believe he wasn’t mentally ill.”
These GOP senators are not removing our patriot’s gun rights. They are only limiting people who can responsibly wield their firearms.
Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw insisted that guns aren’t the problem. Crenshaw believes that the Second Amendment is a part of the culture in the US. He said on CNN, “Culturally, we’re a country that has long had a Second Amendment that believes in the right of self-defense.”
Then he added, “I don’t think it’s a problem that I own guns. And I know that if I destroyed all my guns, it would have zero effect on crime.”
For Crenshaw, gun ownership is not the issue. Responsible gun ownership is…
The Department of Justice to Review Texas School Shooting
The Department of Justice announced that they would review the response from the police during the shooting incident last May.
Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said that the review would be fair. He wrote, “[The goal of the review is] to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and response that day and identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events.”
These kinds of reviews are rare. Most after-action reports after mass shootings are generally compiled by local law enforcement agencies…
On the other hand, Biden has not yet spoken publicly about the police response to the Texas shooting incident.
